Course Overview:

The Standard First Aid with CPR C and HCP (BLS) course offered by ACT First Aid is designed to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills necessary to respond effectively in emergency situations. This course is in accordance with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) regulations and is an approved affiliate of the Lifesaving Society and Code 8 EMS. Course

Duration:

This course is typically conducted over a total of 16 hours, which can be completed in either a two-day or four-day format. The schedule can be adjusted to meet the specific needs of participants or organizations.

Course Content:

1. First Aid:

  • Introduction to First Aid principles and legalities
  • Understanding the role of a First Aid provider
  • Recognizing and responding to emergencies
  • Primary and secondary survey techniques
  • Control of bleeding and wound care
  • Treatment of shock and unconsciousness
  • Management of head, neck, and spinal injuries - Assessment and treatment of fractures, sprains, and strains
  • Dealing with burns, scalds, and electrical injuries
  • Handling medical emergencies (e.g., seizures, diabetes, asthma)
  • Recognizing and providing care for environmental emergencies (e.g., heatstroke, frostbite)

2. CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator):

  • Understanding the Chain of Survival - Recognition of cardiac arrest and activation of emergency response system
  • Providing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults, children, and infants
  • Use of an AED for defibrillation
  • Team dynamics and communication during CPR/AED procedures

3. Health Care Provider (HCP) CPR (BLS):

  • Overview of the HCP CPR guidelines
  • CPR techniques for healthcare professionals
  • Use of advanced airway devices and bag-valve-mask (BVM) ventilation
  • Special considerations for healthcare settings

Certification:

Upon successful completion of the Standard First Aid with CPR C and HCP (BLS) course, participants will receive a certification card that is valid for three years. The certification meets the requirements of WSIB regulations and is recognized by employers, healthcare facilities, and other organizations.

Prerequisites:

There are no prerequisites for this course. Participants of all backgrounds and experience levels are welcome to join.
